Dalstrom, Gustaf Oscar

Gustaf Dalstrom (1893–1971) was an American artist and muralist. From 1927, he served as president of the Chicago Society of Artists. During the Great Depression he contributed several mural paintings to public schools and post offices through the Treasury Department Section of Painting and Sculpture (later called The Treasury Section of Fine Arts). One of his murals that can still be viewed today is The Great Indian Council - 1833. The mural was originally featured in 1938, paired with a mural his wife, Frances Foy, created in The Old Main Post Office of Chicago. The Great Indian Council - 1833 can be viewed in the current location of the South Loop Post Office in Chicago, Illinois.

Damasceno, Giovanni

Jean-Damascène Sallusti, also Giovanni Damasceno (simplified Chinese: 安德义; traditional Chinese: 安德義; pinyin: Ān Déyì; d. 1781) was an Italian missionary to China, as well as a court painter under the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing dynasty. A member of the Augustinian order, and later a Jesuit, Sallusti was (somewhat controversially) appointed Bishop of Beijing in 1778, a position he held until his death in 1781. As a painter, he was a contemporary of Giuseppe Castiglione and Ignatius Sichelbart, and with them was responsible for the creation of the Emperor's "Battle Copper Prints", commemorating the I-li campaign. Work by Sallusti is held in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Matthieu Ricard (French pronunciation: [matjø ʁikaʁ]; Nepali: माथ्यु रिका, born 15 February 1946) is a Nepalese French writer, photographer, translator and Buddhist monk who resides at Shechen Tennyi Dargyeling Monastery in Nepal. Matthieu Ricard grew up among the personalities and ideas of French intellectual circles. He received a PhD degree in molecular genetics from the Pasteur Institute in 1972. He then decided to forsake his scientific career and instead practice Tibetan Buddhism, living mainly in the Himalayas. Ricard is a board member of the Mind and Life Institute. He received the French National Order of Merit for his humanitarian work in the East with Karuna-Shechen, the non-profit organization he co-founded in 2000 with Rabjam Rinpoche. Since 1989, he has acted as the French interpreter for the 14th Dalai Lama. Since 2010, he has been travelling and giving a series of talks with and assisting in teachings by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, the incarnation of Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

Damianakes, Cleo

Cleo Theodora Damianakes (March 1, 1895 – August 27, 1979), nom de plume Cleon or Cleonike, was an American etcher, painter, and illustrator. She was widely known for designing dust jackets for Lost Generation writers in the 1920s and early 1930s, including cover art for the first editions of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms, as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald's All the Sad Young Men, which were published by Scribners. Other authors she designed covers for included novelists such as Zelda Fitzgerald, Conrad Aiken, John Galsworthy, and Arthur B. Reeve. A Greek American, Damianakes was critically acclaimed for the classical Greek influence in her etchings, and was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, which awarded her a medal in 1922. Her work is now part of the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and others. Married to fellow artist and book jacket designer Ralph Brooks Wilkins, she was known later in life as Cleo Wilkins.
