Jean Marot (French pronunciation: [ʒɑ̃ maʁo]; 1619 – 15 December 1679) was a French architect and engraver of architectural views. Little has survived of his own architectural work, but his engravings of the works of others, primarily those published in the volumes referred to as the Petit Marot (c. 1659) and the Grand Marot (1686), were highly esteemed by his contemporaries and remain, despite numerous inaccuracies and distortions, among the most important sources concerning architecture in France up to the early part of the reign of Louis XIV.

French, 1863 - 1924

Charles Cottet (French pronunciation: [ʃaʁl kɔtɛ]; 12 July 1863 – 20 September 1925) was a French painter, born at Le Puy-en-Velay and died in Paris. A famed Post-Impressionist, Cottet is known for his dark, evocative painting of rural Brittany and seascapes. He led a school of painters known as the Bande noire or "Nubians" group (for the sombre palette they used, in contrast to the brighter Impressionist and Postimpressionist paintings), and was friends with such artists as Auguste Rodin.

Cottingham, Robert

American

American, born 1935

Robert Cottingham (born 26 September 1935 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American artist known for his paintings and prints of urban American landscapes, showing building facades, neon signs, movie marquees, railroad heralds, and shop fronts. Cottingham is usually classified as a photorealist. He characterizes his paintings as belonging to a tradition of American vernacular scenes painted by Stuart Davis, Charles Demuth, Edward Hopper, and Charles Sheeler. Cottingham was influenced by his background in advertising and typography, and consequently connects his work to Pop art. Cottingham turned to painting full-time after his first successful solo exhibitions in 1968. He began showing at the OK Harris Gallery in New York in 1971. In 1974, he was awarded a grant by the National Endowment for the Arts. Cottingham is a two-time recipient of fellowships from MacDowell. In 1990, he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate Academician, and became a full Academician in 1994. A retrospective of Cottingham's prints took place at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 1999.
