Purchased 1957 by Dorothy C. Miller [1904-2003], New York;[1] gift 10 November 1977 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2014 by the National Gallery of Art. [1] Accordinig to her letter of 29 June 1977 to Jane Livingston (NGA curatorial files), Miller purchased the painting at the 1956-1957 Whitney annual exhibition. The artist's dealer was identified in the exhibition catalogue as Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York; it is not clear if Miller's purchase was through the dealer.
