Description

This painting is a pendant to the adjacent work, View of Civita Castellana. As the setting sun colours the sky pink and purple, two people in classical robes gaze at an ancient temple. Dupré painted a tableau suffused with the impressions he had gained during his study trip in Italy: the southern landscape, the golden light and the remains of classical antiquity.
