Description

The Dutch landscape painter Hendrik Voogd had a successful career in Italy. During a visit to his homeland, he was portrayed by the celebrated English portraitist Charles Howard Hodges, who worked in the Netherlands. Hodges must have been honoured by the commission and portrayed Voogd not as an artist, but as a gentleman. The distinguished demeanour and serious gaze confirm Voogd’s established position as an artist.
