Description

In 1886, Van Gogh moved to Paris to familiarise himself in the painting style of the French Impressionists. This painting reflects his experimentation with their bright vibrant colours, short brushstrokes, and modern compositions. The scene is a close-up of a bank of the Seine River near Asnières, a town northeast of Paris. Van Gogh enjoyed painting there during the summer of 1887.
