View of Suratte, India. Anonymous, second half 17th century. For the VOC, the city of Suratte in northwest India was an important centre for the purchase of cotton fabrics to Suratte. The VOC brought spices, porcelain, Italian cloth and all kinds of curiosities for one of the principal Indian rulers, the Mughal emperor.
