This was the first time an ambassador of the Republic was received at the French court with full ceremony. The 6-year-old Louis XV is standing in front of the throne. Opposite the king is the Dutch ambassador Cornelis Hop, who is about to submit his credentials. The person writing in the foreground is probably Hop's secretary.
