Description
The Prince of Orange at the Battle of Quatre-Bras, 16 June 1815, by J.W. Pieneman, 1817/18. Quatre-Bras, at the intersection of two major roads, was attacked by French troops under Marshall Ney on 16 June 1815. A Netherlands- Nassau army led by the Duke of Saxe-Weimar and the Prince of Orange repelled the French advance. This allowed the Prussian troops under Field-Marshall Blücher to join Wellington's British army. On 18 June the decisive Battle of Waterloo was fought.
