Description

To our knowledge, Mrs and Mr Thijssen are the only individuals in the Netherlands to have had themselves portrayed standing on the ice. This was probably because wealthier citizens considered skating a bit vulgar at the time. Consequently, neither Mr nor Mrs Thijssen are wearing skates. Regrettably, we do not know why they chose such a wintry setting or why Mr Thijssen appears to be gesturing towards other people on the ice.
