Description

Much of Moroni’s career was passed in the provincial town of Bergamo in North Italy. He specialized in portraiture. The directness and warm sympathy with which he portrayed his sitters, whatever their rank, places him among the foremost practitioners of his age. This woman’s sumptuous clothing and costly jewels proclaim her social status, but there is alas no clue to her identity.
