Description

The death of George Floyd, who was killed by police violence in Minneapolis in May 2020, was a direct cause for the global anti-racism protests. Vlissingen artist Bibi Skaja incorporated her anger about this in his portrait. Floyd repeatedly uttered the words ‘I can’t breathe’ shortly before he died. On 8 June 2020, Skaja held the painting high during the Black Lives Matter demonstration in Middelburg.
