Description

No other silversmith was as celebrated as Johannes Lutma. In this depiction he is portrayed as a virtuoso craftsman. He holds an Italian chasing hammer in his hand, referencing his technical expertise in the art of chasing. In the background is a jar with punches, tools used for applying relief to silver. In the foreground is a silver salt cellar, one of the highlights of Lutma’s oeuvre.
