Description
Recent research has revealed that this plaquette—long characterized as an Italian object from the 1500s—is indeed by the hand of a 19th-century silversmith working in Vienna. The subject of the Renaissance-style object also cannot be precisely identified, although it was long associated with the beheading of Saint Paul.
