Block to Illustrate Woodcutting

Description

To begin a woodcut, the image is drawn directly onto the woodblock or an ink drawing made on thin paper is glued down onto it. The white parts are cut away, as in the upper left-hand corner, leaving the lines that will be printed in relief. When the entire design is cut, any paper remnants are removed.
