#occupy gezi architecture

Description

In 2013 the nonprofit organization Architecture for All became particularly active in the debates around the proposed urban redevelopment of Taksim Square, a public plaza in Istanbul. The plan inspired a mass protest and a sit-in in nearby Gezi Park. Architecture for All documented the improvised neighborhood on the grounds of the park in a series of drawings, which included “Speakers Points,” “Libraries,” and “Meeting Tables”—all made from found materials. Architecture for All used the tools of architectural drawing (plan, front view, side view, perspective, axonometric) to create a vocabulary for occupying public space, providing a vital contribution to the recording and sharing of ideas.
