Brod studied in Prague and later at the competitive Kunstgewerbeschule (Arts and Crafts School) in Vienna before moving to Chicago in 1924. In addition to being a printmaker, Brod was an accomplished textile designer who often incorporated decorative and abstract elements into her art.
