The Years

Description

Charles Atlas has created works for screen, stage, gallery, and television for more than five decades. Consistently pushing the limits of the video, he explores the presence of the medium in space and in relationship to the human body. The Years features four monitors showing excerpts drawn from 77 works spanning the artist’s career. These projects highlight Atlas’s historic collaborations with artists, dancers, and choreographers such as Marina Abramović, Anohni Karole Armitage, Michael Clark, Merce Cunningham, Dancenoise, Douglas Dunn, and Rashaun Mitchell + Silas Riener. Above the monitors, a group of adolescent viewers gazes plaintively outward, not only witnessing the past but also looking toward the future.
