Horizon B (Suihen B)

Description

Iwami Reika was a sculptor before turning to prints, and the woodgrain seen here features prominently in her compositions. She would apply ink to pieces of driftwood or old wood before pressing them to the paper. While creating this work, she sprinkled powdered mica, a sparkling mineral, over the wet ink; it can be seen on most of the printed areas. Iwami affixed the gold leaf in a similar fashion. The heavy embossing seen here in the round, moon-like form began to appear in her prints after 1969.
