Museum of Science and Industry from Japanese Bridge

Description

A largely self-taught artist and founder of the Chicago Society of Etchers, Jaques was one of the first artists to popularize etching as an artistic medium in America. Here, she depicted the building now known as the Museum of Science and Industry as seen from Jackson Park. Jaques’s command of the process is underscored by the work’s deep use of tone and range of marks.
