In the possession of the sculptor, Antoine Étex (died 1888), Paris; sold, his estate sale, Hôtel Drouot, Paris, February 25–26, 1889, for 360 francs to unknown buyer. Guy Charfnadel (Galerie Romane), Paris, before 1970 [according to commission book, 1966–70, in Heim Gallery Records, the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles]. Heim Gallery, London, by 1975; sold to the Art Institute, 1975.
