Corpus and Superscription Plaque

Description

This figure of the dead Christ and the accompanying plaque were once mounted on a cross, now lost. The complete group would have served as the focal point of an altar in a private chapel, much like the crucifix in Jacopo da Empoli’s portrait of a woman.
