Nearly Monochrome

Description

One of the largest baskets Frey has yet undertaken, Nearly Monochrome exemplifies his immense ambition and commitment to detail. Although the basket measures over 31 inches tall, he wove it at the same intricate scale of his smallest pieces. Like a Chicago skyscraper, it had to be carefully engineered: Frey wove the towering basket upside down so that gravity would allow the long black and undyed standards to hang and make them easier to work with. The piece introduced Frey to the international art world when it debuted in 2022 at Art Basel in Miami.
