Galley under Construction

Provenance

Probably Antoine-Joseph Dezallier d'Argenville, Paris [1680 - 1765] (Lugt 295, without paraphe).[1] Julius S. Held [1905-2002], by 1970; gift 1985 to NGA. [1] The number in the lower right closely resembles that in a Liagno drawing now in the Louvre (INV 9667), which aslo includes Dezallier d'Argenville's paraphe. The numbers are not sequential, possibly a reflection of this drawing's earlier attribution to Agostino Tassi as noted in old inscriptions.
