Baumeister, Willi
Willi Baumeister (22 January 1889 – 31 August 1955) was a German painter, scenic designer, art professor, and typographer. In the early part of his career he developed a style of abstract painting that emphasized geometry, flat planes, and hard edges. The pictorial language of his later work is characterized by organic forms and symbols influenced by his appreciation of prehistoric art.
